Dr. Donna Segal

Donna Segal photoPerception Plus was developed by Dr. Donna Segal, who obtained her clinical doctorate in Audiology in January 2006 from A.T. Still University of Health Sciences in Mesa, Ariz. Previously, Segal obtained her bachelor of arts degree from Indiana University in the area of Speech and Hearing Sciences in 1983 and her master of science from Purdue University, in Audiology in 1985. She has always been committed to helping others in their overall communication needs.

Segal has worked in the field of Audiology her entire career and has been studying the field of health and wellness for more than 25 years. She has worked in clinical and private practice settings and has taught speech reading/ lip reading classes as well as lectured on a variety of different hearing-related topics.

Growing up with a grandfather with severe hearing loss, Segal personally understands the impact that the auditory sense has on one’s life and its affect on family and social interactions. She has studied health and nutrition extensively for over 25 years and is very interested in nutrition and the critical role that it plays in the body’s function, Segal has  studied a variety of Eastern cultural practices including Yoga, Q-Gong Tai Chi, meditation and the ancient forms of sound therapy and its relationship to the mind body connection. Dr. Segal can assist in developing an easy to follow plan in the area of nutrition and relaxation to aid the body’s healing. Dr. Segal has led workshops incorporating these techniques along with sound and healing. When given the right tools, the body can heal itself.

Segal’s area of interest has been in hearing aids and aural rehabilitation. This involves working with individuals to allow them to retrain their brains to adapt to the different sounds that they hear with amplification. The challenge of hearing aids is related to the adaptation and relearning that the system does as it shifts its perception. The individuals’ success is greatly improved when he or she understands the process and is an active participant in their own healing.

She has studied and is very challenged by the area of tinnitus and hyperacusis related issues. Segal also teaches a tinnitus course at the doctorate level each year. This is where she felt the need to implement her conventional audiological training as well as blending alternative approaches to these frustrating conditions.

Segal feels that the challenge lies in approaching the entire system. She strongly supports the synergistic affect of the body and its functions and agrees with the philosophy that the body is a reflection of the subconscious mind. Emotions hold the body and mind together and integrating these practices allows the individual to develop different patterns of living their life with peace and contentment. She feels that each individual comes into the office with his or her own unique history and needs and Perception Plus approaches each individual uniquely. Every plan of treatment is different and tailored to assist the individual in the progression through whole body healing.
